Ancient meaning.

Modern relevance.

Future impact.

Inspired by our colleague Prof. Luis de Miranda’s genealogical analysis and his reframing of bioethics as bios ethikos, ioēs brings together two ancient terms, both relating to different expressions of life.

Zoē refers to biological life, the various inter-dependent processes of organic functioning. Bios refers more intimately, existentially, to the seemingly unique way of human life shaped by meaning, deep orientation and evaluative practice.

In the creative exploration of our name, we decided the ‘i’ metaphorically refers to the individual. The ‘ēs’ plays on the concept of the collective; of us, our relations, this entire interconnected web of life we-co-inhabit.

The name meant something to us not just because of our whole-of-organism, process-relational philosophy and it’s alignment to Prof. Miranda’s reframing of Bioethics, but because healing, because evolving, because becoming, is never an entirely individual act.

Meet our founders

Esther Jasaraj

Somatic Therapist

Esther has dedicated nearly two decades to the question; what does it really mean to healthily and authentically live in the body? Through her background in dance, beauty, and para-medical science, consistent themes emerged in all of her client work; difficulty with emotional processing, chronic stress, and disconnection from the body and self. This inspired years of her own inquiry, practice and research, culminating in studying and practicing somatic therapy. Now, through diverse modalities, Esther supports clients in exploring their embodiment, capacity for self expression, identity, health and the relatedness of these processes.

With a passion for human physiology, mindbody system dynamics and the complex processes of nervous system adaptation, Esther helps clients attend to their unmet needs, the ways they have each been wounded by the world, the ways this has shaped them and the compassionate, patient and courageous process through which they can consciously contribute to evolving the being they are, on their own terms. This is a context in which ALL of you is welcome and ALL of you becomes possible.

Nathan (Nate) Kinch

Nate is a philosophical practitioner with nearly fifteen years experience leading applied philosophical work within major public and private institutions. He has lectured in the Americas, Europe and Australia, held multiple Philosopher in Residence positions, and led numerous philosophical programs for the Royal Society of the Arts.

In 2025, Nate become one of the first SMILE_PH certified philosophical counsellors globally. Through his philosophical counselling with ioēs, Nate supports individuals and groups in exploring the hidden worldview shaping their reality, clarifying their purpose, deepening the meaningfulness of their relationship to the web of life, and becoming a more active, values driven participant in the world.

He believes that living philosophically, not just ‘thinking’ philosophically, is perhaps one of the most important things an individual, group or organisation can do to be of service to a reality far more complex, challenging and beautiful than any of us can individually comprehend.
